ethereum Altair Upgrade EIP-2982

Ethereum 2.0 is approaching fast as Altair Upgrade will take place in less than a month

It’s finally announced. Ethereum’s next major upgrade, Altair, will take place during October.

According to the Ethereum Foundation researcher Danny Ryan, this long-planned upgrade will be implemented at epoch 74240 or approximatively on October 27th.

Altair is described to be the first mainnet upgrade to Ethereum’s coordination mechanism called « Beacon Chain » responsible for the blocs’ generation, the blockchain security, and the rewards received by the Validators.

This upgrade brings light-client support to the core consensus, cleans up beacon state incentive accounting, fixes some issues with validator incentives, and steps up the punitive params as per EIP-2982.

EIP-2982 propose the introduction of “punitive parameters” to ensure that the proof-of-stake protocol is economically secure. “Inactivity leak” and “slashing” are some of the proposed penalties under this improvement.

Ryan added that there will be another blog post on October 4th offering more detail about this upgrade. A much-needed one regarding the fact that Validator operators will be able to upgrade their nodes to be Altair ready.

For many crypto enthusiasts, Ethereum Foundation expert Danny Ryan is now proving that Vitalik Buterin was right when he said stated that Ethereum 2.0 was on its last path to be launched.

With this upgrading of the Ethereum network to a Proof of Stake (PoS) model imminent, Ether price can surge to explore new price territories.
